It is estimated that every single day of our lives we make about 35,000 decisions a day. What will I eat? What will I wear? What route can get me to work the fastest? Each decision has a different outcome. Some are impulsive and others are compliance. How do we know which one is the right one? How do we know that this one decision wont change the whole outcome of our life?
Sometimes in life we have to be willing to take the risk without ever thinking about the outcome. Just imagine if you try and control every single one of those 35,000 decisions throughout our day, we would want to blow our brains out. Trying to control every aspect of your life defeats the purpose of really living. The point of life is to simply do what your heart really desires. If you have to question what it is you want, then maybe you don’t really want it as bad.
Life is such a beautiful experience. Look around you and notice how everything perfectly synchronizes together. We meet people throughout our lives at a perfect time, not a second too early and not a second too late. It’s incredible how perfectly everything aligns itself. And what makes it even more beautiful is that we learn something new from every individual we cross paths with. When we try and control every decision we make, we keep ourselves from experiencing these things. Instead of trying to plan out every aspect of your life, just follow what feels best. It sounds cliche but it really allows you to live in the moment and not in the past or future.
Living in the moment sounds difficult and we’ve deterred so far away from this simplistic ideology. But if you think about it, when we were kids, we actually lived in the moment. We enjoyed every second of the moment. As kids we weren’t worried about the previous day or the next, we lived every day as if nothing else mattered. But as we got older we were told that living in the moment wasn’t possible. The bills were thrown at us, then education came along, then we start worrying about our careers, and finally we start freaking out about our futures. So instead of enjoying the little things that surround our every day lives, we’re already thinking about 10 years into the future. Sometimes it’s important to just take a step back and breathe. Find a quiet spot outside and just appreciate the beauty that surrounds your every day life.
For some people slowing down is not an option, believe me I understand. Sometimes even I get so caught up in my own work and trying to accomplish something in my life that I forget to really enjoy the little things that bring me joy. That is why I incorporated meditation into my life, so that every day in the morning I take a step back and allow myself to become one with the moment and my thoughts. Although meditation might not work for everyone, I suggest you to find something that brings you peace. Maybe a walk at a park or maybe go on a hike.
Making an average of 35,000 decisions a day can make any person go nuts, especially when you try and control the outcome of most. Take a step back and just breathe. Life moves fast which is why it’s important to enjoy every aspect of all the decisions we make throughout our day. Do what feels right and never spend too much time one a single decision because the only thing it will do is keep you away from experiencing life’s precious gift. And if you make a bad decision from time to time, learn from it and apply the learning experience towards your life.
