In life, you won’t always have everything you need to be successful. Sometimes you have to work with what you have in order to make shit happen. We often think that everything has to be perfect or that the stars will align our path, but waiting around only wastes time. We’re only allotted a certain amount of time in life, so we have to make the most out of now. Do as much as you can with what you have, and once you’ve exhausted your resources, then move on to the following project or task.
There have been plenty of times throughout my own career where I’ve stopped working on a project because I believed I needed certain things in order for my career to excel. For instance, there was a time when I was without a computer. I really thought I couldn’t work on my writing. There was also a time when I needed a camera to make some videos, but since I couldn’t afford one, I quickly gave up on the project. This thought process was irrational. I wasn’t trying hard enough to make something happen. Instead, I made excuses, and I decided to wait around for the right moment to present itself, so I could continue working on these projects.
Here are a couple of tips that have helped me stop making excuses and placed me in the right position to become successful.
ASK FOR HELP
If you don’t have certain tools, ask for them. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it the most. Sometimes we let our egos get the best of us when we truly need the help. There are people who are always willing to help, but if you don’t ask, how will that help ever find you?
GET BACK TO THE BASICS
Instead of wasting time, GET BACK TO THE BASICS. If you don’t have a computer to do your work, write by hand. If you don’t have a camera, take the pictures on your phone. Find ways to make things work for you. You can’t sit around hoping that you will have everything in order for your work to begin. You won’t accomplish anything at that rate.
This is critical to any person’s success. We’ve all wasted time on social media when we feel stuck. Don’t fall down this rabbit hole, because this is the one place where your goals won’t be realized. Instead, plan in advance for each separate project you’re working on. Maybe you need some time to work on certain aspects of yourself; read, create, meditate, exercise. These are things we all need to work on in order to maximize our efficiency.
DON’T MAKE EXCUSES, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS
Lastly, don’t make excuses. When you reach an obstacle in your career, make adjustments to other parts of your game. You can’t just try and be good at one thing, you have to be phenomenal in all aspects.
There are plenty of ways we can reach our full potential, but if we’re constantly waiting around for the right opportunity for things to happen, we won’t ever be successful. Make the most out of the little you have. There are kids all over the world who wish they were in your shoes or other individuals who are trying to accomplish the same goals you have, are you going to let them beat you? Or are you going to show up day in and day out to make the most of your life?
