Why a life without a goal is miserable living

Right now at this very second, what is your goal in life? What is that one thing you’re working towards to achieve? Do you want to finish school? Maybe get a promotion at work? It’s important to always know what it is exactly that you want. Not only does this allow for you to plan ahead but it gives you a sense of direction, never allowing you to become “stuck”.

We all come to a point in our lives where we don’t know where we are headed. We question and question what it is where meant to be doing. Some turn to religion, others turn to family, and some just go with the flow of things. But in this life no one is going to know what it best for you, you have to go out into the world and figure things out on your own. You might go weeks feeling miserable not knowing what you’re next move is, but if you work diligently then you’ll avoid this completely. It’s important to have a set goal of where you want to be in life regardless of what obstacles come your way. Not only will your goals keep you focused but it’ll help you to keep working no matter what comes your way.

For example, One day I’m going to become a New York Times Best Selling author, obviously I’m not going to reach that over night but this single goal allows me to keep moving forward. Since I pursued writing I’ve hit numerous of obstacles that have tried to stray me away from following my goal, but I know exactly what it is I want so nothing can obstruct my vision. Even though some days things feel like everything is at a standstill, there are still things I can improve until the opportunity arrives. I spend hours and hours studying other writers, I spend a lot of time reading, and most importantly I spend most of my time practicing my writing(and drinking coffee of course). Most people spend this transition phase in their lives bitching about their current circumstances instead of working harder. This is the time where you should be using your time wisely to improve until the opportunity presents itself.

Trust me I know it’s hard to continue to work when your dreams have been shattered, but we all go through this. If it was easy we would all be living our dreams, but it doesn’t work that way. If it were easy I’d be a New York Times Best Selling author by now, but life isn’t that easy and we have to work hard to reach whatever goal we want in life. If it were easy Michael Jordan would’ve never gotten cut from his high school basket ball team, if it were easy Walt Disney would’ve never gone bankrupt several times, if it were easy Steve Jobs wouldn’t have gotten fired from his own company.

It’s not easy but by setting goals, everything becomes more achievable. Here’s some tips that should help you achieve everything you desire:

  1. Set a major goal of yours.
  2. Set minor goals that will allow you to reach the major goal
  3. Work diligently even when nothing is going your way.
  4. Write your goals down and hang them up somewhere where you see them every day.
  5. When you feel stuck, read your goals over and over again to remind yourself what you’re working towards.
  6. Lastly, work until the opportunity presents itself and when it does take advantage of it.

There’s no a set blueprint or guidelines that will help you reach your goals faster. The only true method to this life is to work hard but also work smart. Figure out what it is you want out life and work towards that goal every day. You don’t want to live your whole life and never work towards anything, talk about a miserable life. We all have a purpose and we all want to achieve something, so don’t get discouraged when things aren’t going your way. Keep fighting and soon enough you’ll achieve what you set out for yourself and when you do, set some new goals and chase them! You are the only one who can make a change in your life, so why wait any longer?
